Important stuff and Dogs

Here are some details about the boring bits:

DO

  • Use consumables if you wish and replace what you use.
  • Replace wood and kindling if used from garage store.
  • Replace or repair breakages and faults and please report them to us.
  • Enter the house via the Garden Room. In summer use ‘tin bath’ in garage to wash sandy feet.

Don’t

  • Please don’t take bath towels to the beach

DOGS

We are generally a dog free house, but we do allow 1 small to medium, well-behaved dog to stay! We ask that they stay downstairs in garden room, and not to go in the bedrooms or upstairs. Their claws will scratch the new wooden floor in the upstairs living room. It would be preferable if they sleep in a cage. Please check with us before.

Linen

All sheets and bath towels are provided. However beach towels are NOT provided.

Recycling

  • Please use colour coded bags and box which are kept outside the kitchen door

Black box:                       Glass

Red bag:                   Plastic bottles and cans

Orange bag:                        Card

Blue bag:                             Paper

  • If you in the house on a Wednesday when the recycling is due for collection (see calendar on kitchen wall) please put out recycling bags/boxes on the grass verge to be collected on Thursday.
  • Spare bags are kept in the bin cupboard under the outside steps

Rubbish

  • Rubbish that is not recyclable please put in black rubbish bags in the dustbin which are located below the outside steps leading from the kitchen. (food waste to go down the insinkerator)
  • Please no loose rubbish or loose bin liners outside of bin (seagulls are real pests!)
  • Rubbish bins to go out on verge on alternate Thursdays. (see calendar on kitchen wall)

Hot Water/Central Heating

The boiler is housed in the outside cupboard under outside kitchen stairs.

There are two water tanks inside the house, one in the upstairs hall cupboard, the other in the children’s room cupboard. Each is controlled separately on the time clock.

The time clock controls are in the laundry room.

On arrival pull down front flap to work controls;

  • For hot water, press the blue ‘select’ button on both hot water zones to ‘ON’ whilst in the house.
  • For the central heating: press the blue ‘select’ button to ‘Auto’ (7-11am and 4-11pm) whilst in the house and turn thermostat up. If you want more warmth press ‘Boost’ to switch the heating on for 1 hour, press twice for two hours. If you press a third time it goes back to Auto.

On departure

  • Switch both hot water zones to ‘Off’.
  • Switch central heating to ‘ON’ and turn the thermostat to 100.

The room thermostat for the central heating is between the bunk room and family bathroom.

Every radiator has a thermostat; we generally set the bedroom radiators to 3 and all others to 4.

Radiators may need to be bled from time to time. If so the key is on the hooks by the back door in the kitchen.

Towel rails

The big chrome radiators in the family bathroom (next to bath) and upstairs bathroom are connected to the hot water system but do need regular bleeding.

The small chrome towel rails in the family bathroom and laundry room are electric and can be switched on/off at the corridor switch between the two rooms. On departure please switch to off.

The towel rail in the shower room is connected to the central heating system, there is also an electric over-ride. In the winter press the green ‘Eco’ button to give a 1 hour boost if needed. In the summer use the red power button to switch on and off and the + and – to control the temperature. We generally set the temperature to 1. On departure please use the power button to switch off.
The isolator switch is in the yellow room (at the end of the corridor on the left hand side). It is behind the beds and can easily get knocked to off

Washing Machine & Dryer

Both machines are located in the shower/laundry room. Taps are very difficult to get at and will be on.
Instructions for use are on the shelf beside the machine.

Please replace any powder or conditioner used.  Please ensure any fluff is removed from filter inside dryer door.  Instructions for use are on inside of dryer door.

Electric switches are situated in garden room, in the corner above shoe holes.

Electrics

The fuse box is in upstairs hall cupboard next to telephone.

Another fuse box for new kitchen appliances is in outside cupboard, round the corner from the boiler cupboard.

Garage

Garage remote control is in the garden room on the key rack. Also garage side door key. (See info book at Trotters for instructions on automatic garage door.)

Please ensure garage is kept locked if you are away from the property.  In the right-hand cupboard at the back of the garage are golf clubs that can be borrowed but must be returned cleaned to the cupboard. This cupboard is kept opened.

Outside Cupboards (below kitchen stairs)

First cupboard houses extra recycling bags and boxes.
Second cupboard houses boiler & key box
Third cupboard (right off 2nd cupboard) houses BBQ equipment

BBQ

There is a gas BBQ on the balcony -if the gas cylinder gets low, please make sure you replace it before you leave from the garage at St. Merryn.  BBQ utensils and charcoal located in outside cupboard (the other side of the boiler cupboard) or in the drawer below the cutlery drawer.
Please clean after use.
